JEDEDIAH - TEXADA ISLANDS - 4 day trip

 

Footwear

  • 1 pair of hiking shoes for onshore wear
  • 1 pair of well strapped sandles ( or tevas)
  • 4 pairs of warm socks - wool or synthetic
  • 4 pairs of light socks

Lower body

  • 2 pairs of fleece pants
  • 2 pairs of quick dry shorts
  • 2 pairs of long johns - optional
  • 1 pair of rain pants ( or gortex ski pants)

upper body

  • 3 t-shirts
  • 3 light-sleeved shirts
  • 1 medium weight long-sleeved shirt
  • 1 warm wool sweater
  • 1 rain jacket
  • 1 wind breaker

head gear

  • 1 baseball cap
  • 1 sou-wester hat or weather-proof hood (or equivalent rain hat)
  • 1 toque
  • 1 head lamp - optional

additional personal gear

  • 1 Optional: BYOW (Bring Your Own Wine).
  • 2 10 L dry bags - higly recommended
  • 1 meduim weight sleeping bag
  • 1 therma rest or sleeping pad
  • 1 12 x 14 tarp per person
    2 sponges ( 1 big and 1 small size)
  • 1 pair of sunglasses (with retainer straps)
  • 5 full 1.5 L water bottles
  • 5 juices ( 1.5 L juice boxes x 5 is best)
  • a few bottles of wine - recommended
  • 1 head lamp or good flashlite (with extra batteries)
  • 1 roll of twine
  • 1 lighter and / or pack of matches
  • 1 pack of 10 garbage bags
  • 1 pack of clear Glad Easy-tie Big CLEAR Garden bags are best
  • 1 box of ziplock bags
  • 1 roll of tinfoil
  • 1 swiss knife - optional
  • 1 hand or bath towel
  • 1 environmentally-friendly bar / container of soap (camp suds is best)
  • 1 roll of biodegradable toilet paper

other

  • water-proof sunblock lotion - SPF 30 or more !!
  • mosquito repellent
  • contact lense solutions - if applicable
  • personal medication - if necessary
    camera - recommended (with extra batteries)
  • binoculars - optional

Eating and drinking

  • 1 bowl
  • 1 plate
  • 1 fork & spoon
  • 1 coffee mug

snacking material

  • 5 bananas per person
  • 5 apples or oranges per person
  • snacking material (bulk food, chocolate bars, trail mix, peanuts, power bars)

PLEASE NOTE:

  • cotton insulates very poorly when wet and dries very slowly
  • wool insulates well when wet and dries slowly
  • synthetics insulate very well when wet AND dry quickly
